Finding a breast lump can be a worrying experience. In many cases a breast lump will turn out to be benign (non cancerous), but it is obviously very important to have any breast lump properly assessed by a doctor to rule out serious causes such as breast cancer.

Causes of breast lumps include fibroadenomas, breast cysts, injury, infection, or breast cancer. Hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle can also affect the breasts, leading to a lumpier texture at certain times of the month.
