Dr Sicknote becomes Qoctor- growing beyond an online sick note service
The start of an online sick note service
Dr Sicknote started out as a bright idea- why not make it possible to see a doctor online to get a sick note? Simple day-to-day things, like medical certificates, carer’s certificates, referral letters and certain prescriptions might require a conversation with a doctor, but not necessarily a physical examination. When Dr Sicknote was launched in late 2015, it became obvious that patients were very receptive to using an online doctor service- particularly those who work unsociable hours, who live in remote areas, or for one reason or another find it hard to see their doctor in person.
But apart from being a bright idea, Dr Sicknote was based on observation. The doctors who started Dr Sicknote are all GPs who work in regular clinics in Australia. They could see that patients were still being forced to make face-to-face appointments with doctors, when in many situations there was no real need for them to do so. And when people’s lives are already busy with work, family and other commitments, it is pretty hard to justify this. Up till a few years ago, there was no real alternative to the traditional doctor’s visit, but with the option of a telehealth appointment now available, this argument no longer stands up.
Dr Sicknote rebrands as Qoctor- offering more online doctor services
As time passed, it became clear to the founding team that the Dr Sicknote name did not reflect how the service was growing- Dr Sicknote was no longer simply an “online medical certificate service”, it was becoming much more. That is why a new name was chosen, as the platform expanded beyond the original online sicknote concept, and began to offer other types of appointments. “Qoctor, your quick online doctor” is a name that was felt to capture this quirky new take on an old way of doing things.
With the new Qoctor name came a new Qoctor website, which is more user-friendly and offers more services. It makes it easy to speak to a doctor and request an online appointment. You can speak to a doctor about a sicknote, a carer’s certificate, a referral letter, or a prescription medication. Following an online assessment, if a prescription is issued by the doctor, this can be sent electronically to a chosen pharmacy or posted directly to anywhere in Australia.
