A positive result is very manageable. The next steps are treatment, and then making sure you don’t pick it up again. A doctor will confirm the right antibiotic for you and talk you through two things that are easy to forget: holding off on sex (even with a condom) until treatment is finished and any partners have been treated; and having a repeat test if it’s recommended. If you got tested somewhere else and just need treating, that can be discussed with the doctor. You may be advised to have a more extended STI screen if not already done. Occasionally you may be advised to see a doctor person, for example, if you are pregnant, if you are quite unwell or if you have complications.
